EDUCATING YOURSELF

Education we all know is the greatest way to get ahead in this world. Education is also a great strategy for being better at what you are doing now and what you which to do in the future.

You want to get better at your job? You want to earn the big bucks? You want to stand out in the crowd? Want to stand out among your peers? Want to get that dream promotion or maybe you just need to get ahead of the guy in the next cubicle? No matter what plan you have for getting ahead, the odds are a little learning will help. Get educated.

While you may need a certificate in order to be a licensed professional of some sort, however, you don’t need to attend an expensive class for many of your other learning needs. There are plenty of stunning examples of people who moved ahead and gained grounds based on self-education; getting general facts on how to do it yourself, how to cook, how to present your work in a better way can help your self-education. We have different "how to’s" available on the internet, get to work and see what else you can do.

While doing this, be systematic. Try out one thing at a time; do not rush into everything at once. You cannot be studying on ‘how to crochet’ and ‘how to bake a cake’ at the same time. Get your information together on a particular subject of interest. Anyone can read a book. Most people can even report on the important information that book contained. But it can be much harder to synthesize information from multiple sources, especially if those sources have been picked out without a clear plan of attack. Putting different ideas together can be extremely difficult and unproductive.

Have a plan each time you want to start a new topic. You do not need so elaborate a plan. For example, if you want to learn on ‘how to be a better project manager’, your plan can be ‘read the Wikipedia article on how to be a better project manager, and then check if the web has any of the books cited in the article you read’ (Wikipedia usually has a list of related books and articles to the topic you picked). You can proceed to study the different other articles or books presented. You would have broadened your knowledge from those different authors and on the same subject content.

Do not forget to take notes and keep your notes updated even as you peruse more and more articles. Streamline your topic to areas of interest, or things that concerns your job or hobbies. Also, materials are not limited to online. Books are available in bookshops close to you. Take time to visit bookshop and upgrade yourself.

Educating your self is not a permanent substitute for classroom education; it is a safe way to know more than the next person. Through educating yourself you can proffer solutions at your work place and start sustain discussions with your bosses and colleagues, putting yourself in a straight line for promotion. While getting yourself together financially or otherwise to further your education, help yourself by learning as much as you can when you can.
