CLEANLINESS: Our Environment

Cleanliness refers not only to the way we tend to our hygiene, but also to the care we take to maintain and cherish all aspect of our environment (inside and outside) within our control.

Our environment is as important to our live as our houses and bodies are. Living things are influenced by non-living things; all living beings are dependent on or are affected by both living and non-living things. The way we take care of ourselves determines what our environment will be like, so protect and care for your environment.

Ways to care for the environment includes and is not limited to these basic things;

·        Do not litter. Use a waste bin when throwing our dirt like paper or any small item rather than throwing it on the street. Dirty surroundings always look horrible; by depositing dirt in the bin, we improve the visual image of our city, reduce unpleasant odours and facilitate the movement of pedestrians and motor vehicles.

·        Clear waste. Waste or garbage should not be piled to keep our environment unclean. Garbage breeds germs and germs cause diseases. In the world today, so many illnesses could have been avoided if we just took time to clean up our environment.

·        Sweep dirt from the environment. Mow the lawn, and cut the weeds or grasses growing in unwanted parts of your houses and compounds.

·        Dispose waste properly. There are safe ways in which waste can be disposed off; look for the best practice in your locality and stick to it. The most common methods of disposing waste are the 3 R’S: reduce, reuse and recycle.

·        When we dispose waste, use cloth bags and paper bags. Do not use plastic bags, not only do they not decompose, when they come in contact with soil, they can block drains.

·        Sometimes a lot of things that we use and thrown away can be refused. Give away your old clothes to someone needy instead of dumping them outside or throwing way.

·        Buy things you know you will use and not have to keep out after a while. Buying unwanted things make our surrounding cluttered.

·        Do not let water collect anywhere in the immediate vicinity of your homes or anywhere in your environment. These breeds germs, algae and mosquitoes.
·        Keep public washrooms and restrooms tidy and properly cleaned to reduce the spread of germs and infections.

·        Our drainage should be kept clean; these also are breeding ground for germs and mosquitoes.

·        One very important thing which most people neglect to do is wash their tank of water. It is necessary that thanks and all water storage devices be washed properly and cleaned from time to time.

Recycle is a method by which waste material can be reused. This involves a special chemical treatment. Glass jars and battles, paper such as newspapers and magazines and plastic can be recycled.

In these times of global warming, taking care of the environment is not asking you to do the impossible. Just these few every day, simple actions can help make the difference; that is the results of creating a clean, environmental friendly place for us and our children is in our efforts to be continuous in doing these things outlined above and for us to teach our children same.
